A quick tour of Dhaka's main commercial areas and the kind of business each one tends to suit.
The northern business belt
Gulshan, Banani and Mohakhali form the city's main modern commercial belt, with the heaviest concentration of multinational offices, agencies, embassies and professional services firms. Most companies looking for a client-facing address start here.
Baridhara sits adjacent and skews diplomatic and residential.
The traditional centre
Motijheel remains the historic financial district, with banks, insurers and government-adjacent offices. It suits businesses whose day-to-day counterparties are there; its trade-offs are older building stock and heavy daytime congestion.
Dhanmondi nearby is mixed residential and commercial, popular with education, healthcare and consumer businesses.
The north and the airport corridor
Uttara works for teams living in the north and for businesses that value proximity to the airport. Tejgaon has a long industrial and commercial history and offers larger footprints and lower rents than the Gulshan belt.
